Hotel Review: Andaz Scottsdale | Sonoran Suite

The Andaz Scottsdale is a 23 acre oasis located near Camelback Mountain that aims to treat you and your company to a series of luxurious pools, spa and exercise moments that you won’t forget. With over 185 bungalow-styled rooms and suites that are dotted around the acre, we fell in love with this place immediately and would love to come back, when it’s not blistering hot.

Check-In & 1st Impressions

Phoenix in the summer time is absolutely no joke. At 104(f) degrees by 12:30pm, we were desperate to get to the hotel resort by mid-afternoon. Pulling up to the Andaz Scottsdale was a waltz to another era - we were greeted by a friendly bellman who helped us and greeted us with a refreshing strawberry lemonade (and dare I say, some spiked ingredients, woot woot!) It was a great gesture and a fantastic start to our stay at this amazing resort.

A quick glance at the lobby gave me a glimpse that this was definitely a curated, mid-century focused ambiance and environment. A scene from Mad Men combined with the future modern mindset of Selling Sunset, we were drawn to all the various colors and artwork scattered across the lobby. The resort’s layout is based on the color wheel, which when identifying which building made for easy understanding. The grounds are incredibly friendly to all generations, from giant pools and plenty of grassy games and experiences, to adults only pool and an awesome pool bar and spa. Instagram-worthy influencers will find this place to be a paradise as the hotel map even lays out the best places to take pictures.

The Hotel Grounds

This 23 acre property consists of various mid-century designed bungalows that are situated around generous lawns and open spaces with paths and desert landscaping. If it wasn’t oven-like temperatures outside, this place would be gorgeous to walk around with family and friends. It’s very pristine and felt like an oasis in the heart of the desert. A sprinkle of hammocks and lounge chaise chairs scatter across the property like sprinkles on a cupcake. Overall, the look is gorgeous and fits the settings of an Andaz property. If you wanted to be even more private, there’s a private resort within the resort - in fact, there are just 20+ rooms around a private pool called the Retreat, and it’s usually meant for corporate events of weddings.

Speaking of the private pool, it’s also where the Palo Verde Spa and Fitness center is. The fitness center has everything that one can hope for, and it’s an outdoor/indoor garage door inspired design. The view is lovely and even has cardio equipments outdoors. A plethora of towels, wipes and headphones are meant for your exercise use. Classes are offered abundantly and choices such as barre, yoga, and boot camp can be utilized to get the blood flowing through your stay at the resort.

The Palo Verde Spa was also a gem, with four treatment rooms, locker rooms and a place for people to get ready. The amenities provided are top notch and the Men’s locker room has its own pool and steam room. Now that’s nice - a private pool and pre-post treatment relaxation.

Sonoran Suite (26F)

The hotel website does a fantastic job describing what the suites and their respective counterparts are. Because the designs are all unique, I had a hunch of what to expect, yet when I actually got to the hotel room, I was in for a fun surprise. The Sonoran Suite is essentially two rooms combined into one, with the second room being a living room with a pull-out couch and its own bathroom. But then, walk into the bedroom and a few hallways down, voila, ANOTHER bathroom! Both are similar in size and have the same amazing shower pressure and amenities, which is a plus.

Bathroom

I think I can say with confidence that the bathrooms here are literally the crown jewels of the hotel rooms. The bathroom (or in my case, the two bathrooms) are laid out with a vanity bench, oversized sinks and lots of outlets and lighting for your makeup and touch ups. There’s also a separate toilet room, and again, in my case, two toilets! I guess one for the morning and one for night!

Unfortunately, it seemed that the Andaz Scottsdale moved away from great toiletries and to the bundled bottles, which I’m honestly a bit disappointed, especially with a hotel of this stature. Surely, we could have something slightly better, right? From the master bathroom, the suite also has a backdoor that opened to another patio that allowed for anyone to relax outdoors, or sneak around the suite. Because it was too hot, I didn’t bother trying to stay outside for the duration of my stay, but found myself walking around this suite and finding ways to take some elusive pictures for the blog.

Dining

Although Weft & Warp Art Bar + Ktichen was closed for renovations during our stay, we were able to enjoy our breakfast there in the next morning. Derived from the art form of weaving, this beautiful ambiance weaves together a series of unique breakfast palette and drinks. Since we booked through our Amex Fine Hotels and Resort, we also were given breakfast as an addition, and we had a blast ordering a series of delectable plates. I highly recommend the avocado toast and the chilaquiles verdes as a dish to share amongst yourself!

Conclusion

This was our first every stay at the Andaz Scottsdale Resort and I already found myself in love with this place. If you’re ever in the midst of wanting a relaxing place to relax, exercise and unwind, this may be the place to be. Enjoy the fun architecture, soak in the oven-like sun, patio cocktails and a beautiful scenic walk that one can enjoy. If you’re planning a trip to Phoenix or Scottsdale, I highly recommend checking out this resort - it’s a beautiful and stunning resort that would outclass a series of 5 start around the area.

If you have Hyatt points to spare or want to use, this may be one of the places you’ll want to splurge on!
