Hotel Review: The Alila Napa Valley | Corner King Vineyard View with Balcony
Alila Napa Valley: A Tranquil Escape in California Wine Country
The Alila Napa Valley has quickly ascended to the top ranks of the most sought-after hotels on the West Coast, and for good reason. This exceptional luxury property, nestled amidst the rolling vineyards of St. Helena, offers a serene and sophisticated escape that's perfect for discerning travelers seeking a romantic getaway or a tranquil retreat. Hyatt has undoubtedly scored a home run with this addition to their portfolio, and I was eager to experience its charm firsthand, drawn by the promise of understated luxury, personalized service, and breathtaking views.
Location
Located at the northern tip of St. Helena, the Alila Napa Valley enjoys a prime location just a stone's throw from the renowned Beringer Vineyards, a historic landmark that has been producing world-class wines since 1876. St. Helena itself exudes a charming small-town ambiance, a world away from the bustling energy of Napa's more touristy areas. World-class wineries, acclaimed restaurants, and boutique shops tucked away along its picturesque streets invite leisurely exploration and discovery. While the Andaz Napa, another Hyatt property in the region, caters to a more social and lively crowd, the Alila Napa Valley provides a haven of tranquility and privacy, making it ideal for couples, honeymooners, or those seeking a more intimate and relaxed escape.

Considering the hotel's luxurious reputation and prime location in St. Helena, points can range from 35,000 to 45,000 points as a Cat-8 hotel, even with the recent shift to dynamic pricing. As a Globalist member, I was delighted to be upgraded to the Corner King Vineyard View with Balcony, a spacious and luxurious suite that promised unparalleled views of the surrounding vineyards.
While the points required for a free night have increased since the hotel's opening in 2021, the Alila Napa Valley still offers good value for those looking to redeem Hyatt points, especially during off-peak times. The ability to offset the cost of a stay that can easily exceed $1,000 per night makes this a worthwhile redemption, particularly for those seeking a luxurious and memorable experience in Napa Valley.
Corner King Vineyard View with A Balcony (DAT BALCONY DOE!)
Upon arrival, I was thrilled to discover that we had been assigned room #338, a corner suite boasting arguably the best views on the property. This expansive suite, spanning over 1,035 square feet, is a true sanctuary of space and light. It features an L-shaped balcony that wraps around the corner of the building, providing panoramic vistas of the Beringer Vineyards and the rolling hills of Napa Valley. From our vantage point on the highest floor, we enjoyed unobstructed views of the breathtaking sunsets, painting the sky in a mesmerizing palette of orange, pink, and purple each evening. The balcony itself is an extension of the living space, furnished with a comfortable sofa, perfect for enjoying a glass of wine while soaking in the scenery, as well as a six-person dining table and a cozy fire pit, ideal for intimate gatherings or romantic evenings under the stars.
Natural light floods the suite through floor-to-ceiling windows, creating a bright and airy ambiance that invites relaxation and rejuvenation. Two electronic panels control blackout shades, allowing for complete darkness when desired, ensuring a restful night's sleep. The suite's design is both elegant and functional, with a separate half-bath for the toilet and a spacious bathroom featuring a luxurious rainfall shower and a sleek soaking tub.
Thoughtful touches throughout the suite elevated our stay beyond the ordinary. A glass jar filled with delectable handmade cookies and a selection of Kollar Chocolates, perfect for pairing with local wines, awaited us upon arrival, a sweet welcome that set the tone for a delightful stay. A stylish reusable water bottle, refillable at stations throughout the property, encouraged us to stay hydrated while minimizing our environmental impact.
If there was one minor drawback to the suite, it was the awkward positioning of the television. Tucked away in a corner next to the console table, it felt almost like an afterthought, especially considering the captivating views that dominated the room. Perhaps repositioning the television closer to the seating area would create a more balanced and functional layout.
And a surprise visit from the general manager, who gifted us with another jar of those irresistible cookies, added a personal touch that made us feel truly valued and welcomed.
Bathroom
The bathroom in the Corner King Vineyard View suite offered a spacious and well-designed retreat for relaxation. Its fixtures and amenities catered to both functionality and aesthetics, creating an ambiance conducive to both revitalization and pampering.
The standout feature was the expansive walk-in shower, equipped with a large rainfall showerhead that provided a cascading flow of water. The shower stall included a built-in bench and a separate handheld showerhead for added convenience. Adjacent to the shower, a freestanding soaking tub offered an additional option for relaxation.
The vanity area featured a generous countertop with ample space for toiletries and personal items. The oversized sink, modern fixtures, and strong water pressure enhanced the functionality of the space. Abundant outlets and strategically placed lighting catered to grooming needs. A full-width mirror maximized natural light from the nearby window.
A separate water closet housed a toilet and small sink, providing added privacy.
While the bathroom's design and functionality were commendable, the generic toiletries were a minor drawback. For a luxury property of this caliber, more upscale and distinctive bath products would have been expected.
Acacia House | Alila Napa Valley
The Alila Napa Valley's signature restaurant, Acacia House, is a culinary gem that elevates the resort experience to new heights. Helmed by acclaimed chef Chris Cosentino, known for his innovative approach to farm-to-table cuisine, the restaurant showcases seasonal Californian fare with a focus on fresh, locally sourced ingredients. We enjoyed breakfast at Acacia House both mornings of our stay, taking advantage of the $75 per night credit offered to Globalist members. The breakfast sandwich, with its perfectly cooked egg, crispy bacon, and melted cheese on a toasted brioche bun, was a standout, as were the fluffy pancakes drizzled with maple syrup and the refreshing fruit plate featuring a colorful medley of seasonal berries. And much to our delight, our corgi Katsu was also treated to a special dog-friendly chicken dish, a thoughtful touch that we truly appreciated.
In the evening, Acacia House transforms into a sophisticated setting for a romantic dinner or a celebratory gathering. The dimly lit dining room, with its exposed brick walls, rustic wood beams, and flickering candlelight, creates an intimate and inviting ambiance. The menu features a tempting array of dishes, from fresh seafood and grilled meats to innovative vegetarian options, all showcasing the bounty of Napa Valley's farms and vineyards. We opted for a selection of small plates, allowing us to sample a variety of flavors and textures. The roasted beet salad with goat cheese and pistachios was a standout, a delightful combination of earthy sweetness and creamy tanginess. The grilled octopus with chorizo and potatoes was another highlight, the tender octopus perfectly charred and infused with the smoky flavors of chorizo.
The bar at Acacia House is equally impressive, offering a curated selection of wines, craft cocktails, and local beers. We had the pleasure of enjoying a cocktail tasting with bartender Stephen, who expertly crafted a variety of Old Fashioned variations, each showcasing different flavor profiles and techniques. His passion for mixology and his engaging storytelling made the experience both educational and enjoyable, a true highlight of our stay.
Fitness Center: A Haven for Wellness
The Alila Napa Valley understands the importance of maintaining a healthy lifestyle, even while on vacation. The resort boasts a well-equipped fitness center, located on the lower level of one of the resort buildings, providing a dedicated space for guests to pursue their fitness goals. Surprisingly spacious for a boutique hotel, the fitness center offers a variety of cardio equipment, including treadmills with individual entertainment screens, stationary bikes, and a rower, allowing guests to choose their preferred method of getting their heart rate up. A selection of free weights, medicine balls, and cable machines cater to those who prefer strength training, while yoga mats and resistance bands provide options for more mindful movement and flexibility exercises.
For those who prefer to exercise outdoors, the resort also provides bicycles, perfect for exploring the surrounding vineyards and countryside, soaking in the fresh air and scenic beauty of Napa Valley. And just outside the fitness center, a cozy fire pit provides a relaxing spot to unwind after a workout, perhaps with a cup of herbal tea or a refreshing glass of water.
Spa Alila: A Sanctuary for Relaxation and Rejuvenation
No luxury resort experience is complete without a spa, and the Alila Napa Valley does not disappoint. Spa Alila is a sanctuary of serenity, tucked away amidst the vineyards, offering a tranquil escape where guests can indulge in a range of pampering treatments and therapies. The spa menu features a variety of massages, facials, and body treatments, all designed to promote relaxation, rejuvenation, and overall well-being. Skilled therapists use their expert touch and premium products to melt away tension, revitalize the skin, and restore a sense of balance and harmony. The spa facilities are equally impressive, with serene treatment rooms, a tranquil relaxation lounge, and a private outdoor terrace where guests can unwind amidst the sights and sounds of nature.
Summary | Conclusion
The Alila Napa Valley is a truly exceptional addition to the Hyatt portfolio and a standout property in the Napa Valley region. With its serene ambiance, luxurious accommodations, exceptional dining, and personalized service, it's the perfect choice for discerning travelers seeking a sophisticated and intimate escape. Whether you're celebrating a special occasion, planning a romantic getaway, or simply seeking a tranquil retreat amidst the beauty of Napa Valley, the Alila Napa Valley is sure to exceed your expectations.
As a Category 8 World of Hyatt hotel, the Alila Napa Valley still presents a compelling option for those looking to redeem their points, though the cost has increased. Standard rooms now start at 35,000 points per night for off-peak dates, 40,000 points for standard dates, and 45,000 points for peak dates. This means flexibility in your travel dates can significantly impact the value of your points. However, it's still a worthwhile splurge, especially considering that Hyatt continues to waive resort fees on award bookings. And with cash rates often exceeding $1,000 per night, redeeming points can provide substantial savings, making a luxurious Napa Valley getaway more attainable.
