Nestled high above the dramatic cliffs of California's iconic Highway 1, the famed Alila Ventana Big Sur stands as a beacon of luxury and immersive natural beauty. This acclaimed resort, renowned for its all-inclusive experience and breathtaking ocean and redwood forest views, has consistently garnered prestigious accolades, solidifying its position as a premier destination. From 2023 onwards, the Alila Ventana Big Sur has continued its winning streak, earning recognition from esteemed travel authorities and publications. These recent awards underscore the resort's unwavering commitment to exceptional service, unparalleled amenities, and a truly unforgettable guest experience, making it a coveted escape for discerning travelers worldwide. it’s become one of the most coveted redemption properties in the Hyatt ecosystem.
The last time we were back here was in 2019 (my old review of the Alila Ventana Big Sur), where we celebrated Christmas together with the hotel staff and our 4-month old corgi. Fast forward to 2025, and we’re back in the spring time, this time with our 5 year old corgi and memories that we’re thrilled to announced that this property has gotten even better over time!

While its breathtaking location and luxurious amenities command cash rates often soaring above $3,000 per night, the opportunity to experience this haven using World of Hyatt points presents an exceptional value proposition, if a spot opens up!
As a Category 8 Hyatt property, securing a stay here with points is a testament to the program's potential. Standard Rooms can be yours for 45,000 Hyatt points per night, while indulging in a Standard Suite requires 66,000 points per night. Considering the opulent accommodations and the extensive all-inclusive offerings, redeeming points here can feel like unlocking an extraordinary experience at a fraction of the typical cost. Finding availability for points redemptions at Alila Ventana, however, is where the real challenge lies, adding to its allure as a rare and highly sought-after reward. You can easily check the points required for your desired dates by utilizing Hyatt's intuitive Points Calendar, accessible when searching for the hotel on their website. Keep in mind that while the calendar displays the points cost for each night, it does not indicate actual availability for points bookings.
In my own personal experience, and echoed by many fellow Hyatt enthusiasts, standard room availability on points, particularly for weekend stays, is notoriously scarce. In fact, I have yet to personally witness a standard room available for points on a weekend. This exclusivity underscores the high demand and limited inventory for points redemptions at this coveted property.

(In my opinion, it’s a absolute steal to pay $10 for the copious amounts of food delivered to your room)

Additionally, most mocktails outside of the happy hour, as well as any non-alcoholic beers, will also incur charges. I wanted to give a shout out to Ben, our Alila Ventana Big Sur concierge, who went above and beyond and even got our corgi a custom-made name tag to go with their poop bag holder. That’s 5-star experience in its own! We’re so thankful for him and for the amazing experience that we had over at the resort!

Designated Relief Areas: The property thoughtfully provides convenient pet relief areas that are located within a short walking distance, and they also supply waste bags for easy and responsible clean-up. A property map provided during check-in typically highlights these designated locations for your convenience.
Spacious Grounds and Trails: The expansive 160-acre property features numerous outdoor spaces and scenic walking trails that dogs are more than welcome to enjoy, as long as they remain on a leash that is no longer than 6 feet. This policy allows for ample opportunities for exercise and exploration amidst the stunning natural surroundings that our property has to offer.
Pet Fee: There is a one-time, non-refundable pet fee of $150 per dog (with a maximum of two dogs permitted per room). This fee is dedicated to covering additional cleaning and ensuring the provision of dog-specific amenities that enhance your pet's experience.
Considerate Policies: Dogs can generally be left unattended in guest rooms, provided they are not disruptive to other guests. However, housekeeping service requires owners to be present, or the pet to be removed from the room during cleaning times to maintain a respectful environment for all guests.

Chicken & Rice: Organic chicken breast with fresh garden vegetables and basmati rice ($12).
Coco Patty: Naturally raised ground beef with potato and garden vegetables ($12). (Our dog went ballastic with this choice and at everything all at once.)
Salmon Bowl: Salmon with basmati rice and sweet potato ($14).
In-Room Dining: You can also order from the Doggie Dining menu via in-room dining between 7:00 AM and 10:00 PM, allowing your dog to enjoy a delicious meal in the comfort of your accommodation.
While dogs are welcome in most outdoor areas, they are typically restricted from the pool areas and the indoor dining room of The Sur House (with the exception of certified service animals as defined by the ADA). I’d highly recommend the Ventana Breakfast, the Chicken Hash and the Farm Egg Omelet for classics, and a series. of pastry basket and fruits to begin the day together. Get a side of the chicken apple sausage and crispy bacon, and this is probably one of the best breakfast anyone can have in California!
