Hotel Review: Hyatt Regency San Francisco | Balcony Suite

Check In | Hyatt Regency San Francisco

The property has undergone a series of renovation as the building itself is pretty old in terms of age. From the outside, it looks pretty mediocre and brutal, yet upcoming entering to the lobby floor, you’re greeted with a beautiful sculpture that seems to flow around the area.

If you’re coming from your car, you would be taking two escalators up to the main lobby - the first two floors are where the conference rooms and venues are located.

At the lobby, check-in was relatively peaceful and quiet. There were a few business travelers coming in, but overall the hotel wasn’t booked like it was pre-covid.

Location | Hyatt Regency San Francisco

This property probably has the best location in terms of locations to almost everything. It’s right across from the Ferry Building, which houses a plethora of amazing restaurants and coffee shops. There’s the cable car station right outside and a BAR station. It’s within walking distance to several eateries, such as Gott’s Roadside, Cowgirl Creamery and Chinatown. Fisherman Wharf and Pier 39 is a simple bike ride away.

Honestly, if it wasn’t pouring rain, my dog and I would have been walking outside alongside the pier the whole morning. It’s such a nice location begin your journey with.

Balcony Suite | Hyatt Regency San Francisco

I had used a suite upgrade certificate that was expiring in February via my Hyatt Concierge, allowing me to grab a Balcony Suite for the night. We were given a lovely room on the 15th floor that featured the city skyline, which was easily accessible via the balcony. If it wasn’t raining, I would have been outdoors with their provided chaise lounges and chairs. The feel and overall vibes of the room is relatively cozy and I felt the upgrade was completely worth it.

The suite was lovely in size and definitely looked renovated. It felt comfortable yet luxurious, and would be great for families. The living room was abundant in size and had a massive sofa and lounge chair, along with the fridge and storage. Coat hangers are immediately to your right - very clever use of the coat design. There were plenty of charging ports and access ports for those traveling with families. The living room had a bunch and the bedroom has plenty on both sides of the bed.

The bedroom didn’t utilize a closet but rather an armoire, which I preferred. It just opens up space for the room and was great in design. Overall, the renovation did a fantastic job taking a very old hotel complex into something classic and modern. Great job here.

The bathroom was very inline with what I had come to expect from renovated Hyatt Regency properties. Similar to the Hyatt Regency Seattle property that I stayed at, the feel and setup feels very similar, which isn’t a bad thing. I would say for those that are looking for something unique, you won’t find it here at the Hyatt Regency San Francisco.

One great thing about this bathroom is its dedicated makeup table, which was a huge plus - it’s kind of rare these days to have that availability, even with upscale and modern hotels. Space is a rarity these days and I’m glad that this hotel has given it great thought into it.

Shower pressure was great and as expected, the amenities were single bottles, rather than the individual bottles.

Regency Club | Hyatt Regency San Francisco

The property has their regency club at the highest floor and it’s definitely one of the highlights of this hotel. Accessible via only two elevators, if you booked a Club Room or have Globalist status, your key car will allow you to access the club with it. Upon arrival, you’re greeted with a beautiful foyer, which then opens up to the a 360 view of San Francisco skyline.

Designed in a circular concept, this glass window open space is mighty impressive and I came away walking around the lounge a couple of times. It was definitely quiet on both the dinner and breakfast hours, as I assumed the intense rain storms kept a lot of travelers away. However, it was stunningly beautiful during the mornings and I found myself reaching for a snack here and here.

The food spread was decent and while it won’t compete anywhere close to Asia properties, I was impressed the selection given the amount of people checked into the hotel. From cheeses to various cuts of meat to a hearty selection of salads and small bites, I thought it was great for the time being. Breakfast contained various pastries and proteins.

Conclusion | Hyatt Regency San Francisco

Overall, we had a great time at the Hyatt Regency San Francisco, even it was in the midst of the most severe rainstorm in decades. The location and the renovated rooms makes this a great landing pad for those exploring San Francisco. While the Regency Club is average at best, the views provided are stunning and if you book a balcony suite - weather permitting - it’s one of the best places to be in San Francisco.
