Hotel Review: Andaz Scottsdale | Saarinen Studio Suite

Hotel Review: Andaz Scottsdale | Saarinen Studio Suite

Introduction

This relatively new property is located a couple of miles North of Old Town Scottsdale in the Phoenix Metro area. Rates can easily spike toward the high $400s during the peak season, with suites close to $800s when we were last in Phoenix in January. Luckily, our visit came at off-season and at a brutal offseason time. We used our Amex Fine Hotels and Resorts to book the room and clocked a $200 credit off our Amex Platinum Card.

Like with all Andaz concept, this hotel doesn’t have a traditional lobby, but instead a comfortable living room type area where check-in is done on an iPad. This space is modern and comfortable and truly is a nice place to hang out if you want to get out of the room for awhile. You can check out the pictures and view on my Sonoran Suite review, which has more exhaustive breakdowns of the hotel grounds and services!

The Saarinen Studio Suite (17E)

This studio suite spans across 485 square feet and offers a place to lounge in the living room and provides a unique private furnished patio, which is reachable from the massive bathroom. We can begin our journey backwards for this suite review.

The private patio, located near the bathroom is such a unique fixture to this Andaz property. I can imagine a lot of guests using this place to privately enjoy the sun or enjoy a series of Instagram worthy poses for their latest gram. Either way, this is fantastic use of space during the spring or fall time in Phoenix, Arizona.

Moving to the bathroom - let me just preface by saying that the size of the bathroom is a lot bigger than the bedroom, or at least the way it’s designed. Incredibly private and tranquil, this massive addition and the two shower heads in the bathroom makes for quite a romantic moment or one hilarious moment. I’m also certain the bathroom can easily fit 6-8 people with relative ease. It’s massive.

My parents were given the Saarinen Studio Suite as an upgrade after booking through Amex Fine Hotels and Resorts for a Eames King Bed. I thought it was a fantastic upgrade and definitely made our booking incredibly valuable.

This suite was equipped with a lovely lounge chair, various storages and a beautiful setup of mini bar items and appliances. Interestingly enough, while the Sonoran Suite had privacy shades along with curtains, this room only had privacy blinds, which I thought was a bit confusing. Because natural lighting is so important for these buildings, it would only make sense if these suites had privacy shades as well.

The bed was incredibly comfortable and had a variety of pillows to choose from - my parents immediately lounged to the bed to relax as I continued to explore this suite a bit more.

Like all previous Andaz resorts, they do think a lot outside the box - some of the extra items I found delightful were:

  • A small bowl of taffy on the nightstand and living room that was refilled each day.

  • White robes to wear in the room or to the pool or massage area, and some amazing slippers!

  • Sunscreen and Aloe Vera Gell were available near the hotel entrance and in the pool area.

  • Fruit infused water available near the entrance and in the pool area.

  • Coffee in the morning at Weft & Warp Bar + Kitchen

  • Extras in the bathroom (nail file, makeup remover pads, etc.)

  • 3-mile radius car service (useful if you’re eating around the area)

Hotel Grounds

If i haven’t covered the resort grounds enough in my previous post, the grounds are amazingly well-taken care of and lacked nothing short of flowers, plants, trees, grass and more succulents galore. A wealth of trees and greenery are scattered across the 23 acre lot, and various spots are Instagram worthy.

I would also recommend checking out their spa and fitness center - the Palo Verde Spa & Apothecary where you can rejuvenate with a spa treatment, use the fitness center, take an exercise class, go for a private swim, etc.

  • Meeting rooms are available - equipped with a small kitchen area, a large whiteboard, and tables in a rectangular formation.

  • Party area available with a lawn - looks lovely if you have a wedding in mind!

  • Cattle Track Arts Compound is nearby and they have artist programs available.

Conclusion

The Andaz Scottsdale will be a desired property for those that want to relax and unwind at the resort - you can certainly find a ton of activities and amenities that cater to your pleasure, all the while enjoying the lovely view of Camelback Mountain. If you want to delve into certain activities, they have everything close by: ample hiking trails, golfing, mountain biking, art galleries and fashion shopping are all within close proximity. There’s everything for everyone at this resort.

Lastly, the Andaz Scottsdale resort provides an unique ambiance and relaxing environment that one will want when spending $$ at a beautiful resort such as this one. From the front desk to the server at the bar to our valet driver, the service here is superb and incredibly friendly. An ideal place for intimate moments and celebrations, look no further than the Andaz Scottsdale.
