Hotel Review: The Conrad Tokyo
This review is part of the Travel Report (Anniversary in Japan) and contains both airlines, hotels and lounge reviews during our visit to Japan and Singapore. Please enjoy!
Introduction | Conrad Tokyo
This hotel has been one of the most sought-after redemptions since its inception. Its’s one of the very best upscale hotels in Tokyo, and everything about it was almost perfect. ALMOST. From the fantastic designs to the prime location, it was also the staff that went beyond for us.
I want to big a huge shout out to Bing Shu, the Guest Relations Manager who was one of the best and most attentive staff I have ever met. He helped us get not only out Shinkansen tickets due to Golden Week, but also helped establish a connection to the Conrad Osaka with his counterpart, Midori at the Conrad Osaka. Talk about being a VVIP! He’s such a fantastic manager and I love everything about him. They made our stay at the Conrad hotels the most unforgettable one possible.
Check-In | Conrad Tokyo
Having moved from the Strings by Intercontinental in the morning, we were whisked to the top floor. Our room wasn’t ready as anticipated, but then - in a effort to get us settled in, we were then moved to the executive lounge.
The lounge also offers breakfast, tea time during the afternoon, and lovely canapés during dinner, along with free-flowing wine and beer. The lounge is a step above most lounges I’ve been to and rivals that of the Ritz Carlton Club lounges. While we had to wait till around 3pm, we had no problem exploring the Ginza area along with the Hamiyrku Gardens. We even had a great lunch at the Katzuen, the only Michelin-starred tonkatsu restaurant in Tokyo. (Sadly, they are now closed.)
The Room | Conrad Tokyo
A mix of contemporary and old-school Japanese elements, the design of the room is incredibly impressive. Beautifully furnished and well oriented, our executive room felt so luxurious. It took my wife’s breath away when she saw all the lovely gifts the hotel gave us: from the Conrad Tokyo bears to the Conrad Rubber Duck to all the desserts from afternoon to even the night, it was such an amazing experience.
Let’s talk about the room size. These rooms are huge for Tokyo standards. Extremely spacious, the expansive views along with the high ceiling made staying here feel like an apartment. The room utilizes space extremely well, with a comfortable window bench (better than the Ritz Carlton Hong Kong one, that’s for sure) and large windows that are controlled via the control panel near the bed.
We were able to enjoy some of the best of views of Tokyo (though I still think the Andaz Tokyo and Park Hyatt Tokyo commands the greatest views of Tokyo) and with the window couch, it was such a great place to just enjoy a cup of coffee while watching the sun set. The daybeds were fantastic and really comfortable.
The bathroom was incredibly spacious and expensive-feeling. With double vanities, a huge soaking tub, walk-in shower and a ton of Shanghai-Tang toiletries, this room blew our minds. Like I mentioned before, we even had the Conrad Tokyo Rubber Duck, which was awesome!
In a place where real estate is so important, the swimming pool on the 38th floor made it such a nice amenity to have during our stay. I was able to get my body back in shape and awake in the morning, and it commanded some insanely great views of Tokyo. In addition, there is the traditional onsen/steam/sauna in the changing room that helped to unwind or help start the day.
The pool was incredibly well heated and kept me going throughout my jet-lag on the 3rd day.
There were so many small moments that made the Conrad Tokyo so memorable. From a special cake for my wife after we came back from the spa/massage to shopping and coming back to more goodies, the took their incredibly sweet time in making sure everything was perfect.
We loved using the Conrad Concierge service - they were able to quickly grab us some of the hardest tables in Tokyo within a few minutes, and we had blast learning so much about Tokyo through them!
Breakfast | Conrad Tokyo
As a Diamond Elite member, you can have breakfast at the Executive Lounge or downstairs the main restaurant. We had both. Since we knew the restaurant would more selections, we opted for it on the first morning. The selection, as you would expect, was expansive and quite impressive. You also have a dedicated option like a special of the day that goes with the breakfast buffet, which I thought was neat.
The Conrad Tokyo buffet has a variety of spreads, from a plethora of options in the Western and Japanese palette. There are lighter options, such as salad and oatmeal, but you didn’t come to Tokyo for that. There is a wide selection of fruits as well, though not as intensive as the Grand Hyatt Taipei or the Regent Taipei.
There’s even additional selections such as truffled poached eggs, specialized pancakes and custom omelets, all of which were included.
As previously mentioned, we were given access to the Executive Lounge, which is probably the best thing I’ll ever have with my Diamond status. We had complimentary breakfast, afternoon tea and evening cocktails. In addition, so much Japanese whiskey and wines were laid out for your pleasure, which is incredibly awesome. The dinner selections were also impressive and quite delicious - who said you had to spend money to get some meals on Tokyo? We had such a beautiful time there.
Conclusion | Conrad Tokyo
I cannot recommend the Conrad Tokyo enough.
Tokyo is always a beloved city that I fell in love with early on, and these hotels continue to provide the reasons why I love visiting Japan so much. The Conrad Tokyo, and the Conrad Osaka (as you read to find out) have some of the most amazing service staff out there, and went beyond their way to making us feel like complete VIPs.
With a fabulous location and plenty of places to eat and shop (Ginza is close by), it’s a no-brainer for those looking to redeem their Hilton Honors points for a chance to stay at one of the best Conrad hotels in the Hilton portfolio.
