Hotel Review: The Grand Hyatt Taipei

Introduction

Having stayed here last year, I rebooked 3 nights at the Grand Hyatt Taipei for the New Years fireworks at Taipei 101. In my opinion, it is one the best and most comprehensive luxury hotel in Taipei. When I stayed here last year, we had upgraded to the Grand View section of the floors - this time around though, with the dates being booked towards New Years, I knew I wouldn’t be so lucky this time around.

The Room

Check-in was a breeze and the front desk continues to amaze me with their quad-lingual tongues. One moment they were helping with Japanese tourists, another moment an English gentlemen and then a Korean speaker. So impressive!

We were quickly given our keys and escorted to the guest elevators, where we made our way to our room. Not much has changed, even if it felt like forever. The aesthetic of the room was great and the bathroom was as amazing as I remembered. The waterfall shower head LITERALLY dumps waterfall amounts of water onto you, so it’s a great way to wake up or get completely drenched within seconds.

You’ll find all the necessary amenities and optional content in the large metal box next to the sink, along with a few other goodies such as two bottles of water, a ton of towels and Balmain Paris toiletries, which is way better than the June Jacobs we had from last year. The Balmain brand are quite nice and fragrant, and housekeeping gave us a couple more to take home, which was a nice gesture!

Overall, the room and bathroom at the hotel remains excellent. The blackout curtains and AC made sleeping super easy for us.

Let’s talk Grand Hyatt Taipei’s amenities.

If you’re a fitness guru or enthusiast, you’re gonna to find this place super valuable. There are various rooms with multiple free weights and machines that are scattered across the floor. The changing room along with the spa and saunas are also on the same floor.

The Grand Hyatt Taipei is super accessible to all the main transit lines, along with a walkway that connects directly to Taipei 101, which houses Din Tai Fung and a variety of shops and dining. If you find eating at the buffet downstairs to be too much, there are a ton of places to eat around the area. The gym is quite popular in the early mornings - I was there at 6:00am and a couple older folks were running and stretching already. So good to see them work out so early with me!

The Spa continues to be a lovely place to unwind in the morning or towards the latter part of the day. Temperature-controlled swimming pool (outdoors) is quite popular even in the rain, and the wet areas like the sauna, steam room and two jacuzzi tubs make for a fantastic getaway during a busy day. In terms of wellness and fitness, the Grand Hyatt Taipei remains one of my favorites in Taiwan.

Ah, the breakfast buffet.

The buffet selection has more selections than one can actually eat. It contains everything ranging from the usual cold cuts and Western dishes to a gluttony of Asian breakfast. One can eat a completely different cuisine every day for breakfast and you would still not complete it all. There’s that many choices.

There are over ten different stations scattered across the space with everything you could possible imagine. Bakeries with over 10-12 different selections was a huge hit for myself in the morning.

I’ll let the pictures explain it all.

The Grand Hyatt Taipei will continue to be a staple in my hotel of choice whenever I fly back to Taiwan. Like fine wine, this business yet modern hotel continues to attract a global clientele. With its 5-star location located right in the heart of Xinyi District, Taipei 101, Elephant Mountain and a ton more shopping districts, there is without a doubt that this hotel should be in your top choice if you ever decide to visit Taipei in the future!
