Hotel Review: Conrad Tokyo
Introduction | Conrad Tokyo
Opened back in 2005, the Conrad Tokyo continues to delight guests from all over with its prime location, eye-catching lobby and 5-star level staff ready to help you with anything.Part of the Hilton portfolio, this is one of the most visited luxury hotels and one that bloggers frequent due to its amazing redemption value and availability.
The Conrad Tokyo is one of Tokyo’s finer upscale luxury hotels and represents one of the best value for your Hilton points vs. cash rate. Connected directly to the Shimbashi and Shiodome train station, this hotel also provides superb location and transportation. The hotel also boasts one of the best breakfast menus for Gold/Hilton Diamond members, and one that features lobster and uni!
Booking | Conrad Tokyo
As this trip was rather impromptu, I took a chance on checking out Hilton’s app to see if there were any spaces available for the Conrad Tokyo. Given that travels to Tokyo have been nothing short of crazy, I was expecting high rates and almost no award space. To my surprise, there was a considerable amount of King Bed City Rooms for 95,000 Hilton Points, which I happily snatched immediately.
If paying on cash rate basis, this 5-star property can easily go from anywhere from $300 to $900 (even shockingly more during April and May), and easily worth the points usage. Keep in mind that if you’re staying for five night, you can leverage the Hilton Honors 5th Night Free benefit, which can maximize your points eve more.
As a Hilton Diamond member, I was given:
Upgraded to Higher Executive Floors (or suites, if applicable)
Executive Lounge Access
Breakfast for 2 at Cerise
Free Use of the Pool/Spa
Points are a fantastic use here and one I highly recommend, as the cash rates often fluctuate due to business conferences, events or corporate bookings. Hotels prices in Tokyo are currently in high demand, so it’s absolutely worth spending your Hilton points here.
Location | Conrad Tokyo
I love this location a lot. Located in the busy Shimbashi business district of Tokyo, the Conrad Tokyo takes on floor 28-37 of the Shidome skyscraper. You can easily walk to Ginza district within 15-20 minutes, or walk directly to the Hamarikyu Gardens for some R&R time with nature. If you’re a fish enthusiast, then head over to Toyosu Market (home of the world’s largest wholesale fish market and some insanely great sushi places).
In addition, you can easily connect to the subway lines (Shimbashi and Shiodome Station) as the building’s ground floor is connected to an underground shopping mall, allowing you to almost do all your traveling underground! This was great for me transversing across Tokyo during my layover.
Since this was my last stop before heading back home to San Francisco, Tokyo Haneda Airport is a simple 30 minute bus ride from the Keikyu Airport Bus Line, or an hour and 20-25 minutes if heading to Narita International Airport. I’d always highly recommend buying those tickets ahead of time so you’re not stressed out about catching your flight during peak traffic hours!
One great part about the subway lines - the Toei-Asakusa line runs through Shimbashi and provides direct service to Haneda via the Keikyu Main Line. The train ride to Haneda via the Keikyu is around 30-40min. You can also take a 5 minute cab ride to Hamamatsucho and then the Tokyo Monorail afterwards. For Narita, Tokyo Station is just one or two stops away via JR lines, and from it’s possible to catch the Narita Express. Taxi rides to Haneda cost around 6,000 YEN if you’re short on time.
Honestly, the location is one of the many reasons why so many travelers continue to frequent the Conrad Tokyo over so many 5-star hotels.
Lobby, Part One | Conrad Tokyo
While the main lobby is on the 28th floor, when you arrive on the ground level, you’ll find yourself with various artworks dotted across the ground floor lobby. The space is expansive and very Japanese, as it’s super minimalistic - the environment is very pleasing to the yes. A set of elevators will take you to the 28th floor, and another set of elevators for guest rooms.
Lobby, Part Two | Conrad Tokyo
Warm glowing check-in counters and cherry blossom motifs greet you when you enter the main lobby. Adorned with organic lines, wood finish and an high ceilings, this contemporary design continues to cater towards jaw-dropping first impressions. There are over 23 Japanese artists that are represented in the hotel, and features exquisite designs that captures the essence of Japanese impressionism.
King Executive Bay View ROOM | Conrad Tokyo
As a Hilton Diamond member, I was upgraded to the King Executive Bay View Room, which was around $1,000 JPY during the day I checked in. Given my arrival time was around 6:30pm, I didn’t expect much - yet the staff was kind enough to drop off some amenities and snacks during my stay. II was assigned room 3637 this time around, which is a bit further away from the elevator.
I do believe the views here are still just as fantastic as they were when we arrived back in 2019. The room boasts and amazing view of the Tokyo Bay and hosts some of the best sunrise pictures I’ve ever taken. The view is very captivating and I found myself at times just sitting at the window, peering into the endless skyline that is Tokyo. The Executive rooms measure a good 48SPM and is quite impressive for space given Tokyo’s space limitation and standards.
A short hallway showcases a full-size mirror to your left and the bathroom to your right. The bathroom can be closed with its double sliding doors. The closet contains plenty of hangers, ironing kit, bath slippers and extra pillows. You can also fit multiple luggages in there. A TV is mounted in the middle of the room, along with the mini bar. Coffee is nespresso and tea is from TWG. The water here is quite luxurious, as they are glass bottles. There’s a welcome amenity of chocolates from the hotel itself, which I gladly paired with the TWG black tea.
The King Size Bed was great to sleep on, but it’s the pillows that ultimately made me knock out. There’s just something about Conrad pillows that just make me sleep so fast. Bedding is top quality and I had one of my better sleeps here. In addition, you can find the famous Conrad duck and teddy bear, which I have been collecting. There are quite lovely and my family loves these.
Controls for the rooms are found on both sides of the nightstand. Curtains and blinds work well in blocking out light and are easily controlled with the turn knobs found on the left side of the nightstand. You also have an extended nightstand that features all the documents, letterheads and writing materials. A circular desk and a comfy armchair can be found near the corner of the room and provides great support. Wifi is insanely fast here, with down speeds close to 120 and up speeds at 100!
Turndown service here was fantastic, like with all other Japanese hotels that I’ve stayed at. They offered pajamas and also laid out an extra set of water bottles (they know me too well, thanks Conrad Tokyo!). During the daily housekeeping and turndown service, they provided a generous amount of water bottles in my room, along with a set of pajamas and a lovely Japanese tea set. They were incredibly comfortable and caressed my body like soft silk pillow. A last glimpse of the Tokyo skyline and off I went to sleep.
Bathroom | Conrad Tokyo
The bathroom is quite spacious and features a full standing tub. IT comes with two sinks, a waterfall shower and a toilet in separate rooms. Blinds are electronically controlled so you can enjoy the views of Tokyo while enjoying your tub time, or should you request a bit more privacy, close them so you can shower in peace. All amenities are provided, though I did find the shower amenities to be full pump bottles rather the small ones, which is a bit of shame, considering the class of this hotel.
Toiletries are from Byredo and smell fantastic. The lotion is one of my favorite. Water pressure and temperature from the waterfall shower is one of the best and is incredibly soothing. The tub is spacious, though I would warn that there is a slight elevation change, so don’t trip when approaching the tub! The hair dryer here is of the fancy kind - I was given a Repronizer 4D, which supposedly is one of the more fancy types.
Executive Lounge | Conrad Tokyo
Located on the 37th floor and facing the city or the bay, this lounge is free for Diamond members and Gold members that book on an Executive Level floor. It’s a great place to hang out during the afternoon and evenings, but the breakfast is where it’s at.
The lounge offers a breakfast spread, an afternoon spread and an evening hors d’oeuvres spread. For snacks, there were small cakes, cookies, fruits and various small bites. In addition, there were several varieties of canapés that took me by surprise, both in a good and bad way.
There’s a variety of seating options spread across the lounge, with some overlooking the bay and some facing the city. The elements evoke tranquility and relaxation, and I got so much work done within the few hours that I had at the lounge. Compared to my last visit, it was a lot more relaxed and quiet, which is not to say that this hotel does get massively busy during peak seasons.
Back to breakfast - while the spread is slightly more limited than at the main restaurant Cerise, it’s still more exclusive and only open to Diamond members or those that have an Executive Room type. In addition, there is a la carte menu that features some of the best breakfast items I’ve ever tasted. If you choose to have breakfast here, it starts from 7am and goes to 10am daily. The lounge breakfast is honestly super solid and is a great alternative for those seeking more exclusive or private breakfast dining.
Drinks here are also quite impressive. With a plethora of alcoholic options, one can easily find craft beers, local beers, wine, sake and all sorts of international spirits and liquors to their liking. During the evening canapes and cocktails, they showcased some delicious small bites, and featured a good list of alcohol selection.
Amenities | Conrad Tokyo
The Mizuki Spa & Fitness Center is a great place to get a good workout in, or a nice dip in the heated pool! Located on the 29th floor, the fitness center is open 24 hours a day and is accessed via your key cards. I had a blast getting a workout in as the equipment is world-class and features some highly regarded workout equipments. Towel and water is provided alongside a very clean atmosphere.
I took a chance and grabbed a morning swim and never looked back. IT’s a 25m indoor pool and is incredibly elegant looking. The views of the surrounding vicinity is serene while you get a good laps in. This is definitely a pool meant for those that want to swim, not to lounge. Sadly, I wasn’t in the mood to swim and thus I didn’t take any pictures this time around. However, you can read my Conrad Tokyo Review back in 2019 for more details!
The spa provides treatments and wellness massages that are available from 9am to 10pm. It is a bit pricey and I’d would recommend saving that cash for the restaurants just outside of the hotel.. What’s nice about this spa is that as a Diamond member, we are given access to use the spa facilities without needing a booking. This came in handy as I was able to get a sauna and jacuzzi in during the evening.
Breakfast at Cerise | Conrad Tokyo
Located on the 28th floor, breakfast is located at Cerise, which is the hotel’s all-day signature restaurant. Breakfast starts at 6:30am to 10:30am, and actually gets quite busy from the get-go! As a Diamond member, (Gold members included) breakfast was comped and I was whisked away to my table. Breakfast costs 5,000 JPY per person if you decide to pay.
The restaurant looks luxurious - high ceilings and tons of natural light from the outdoors made the white facade of this place feel immaculate. It’s a great place to have your breakfast, that’s for sure. The place is split into two main areas, with the first one located near the windows and the the second one closer to the hotel halls.
Breakfast is buffet style, and they didn’t disappoint. A plethora of items awaits your every whim, and I went straight for the Japanese offerings. From rice to grille fish to miso soup, there was something for everyone. Western selections included some delicious sausages, scrambled eggs and mushrooms. Fruits here were fantastic, as they featured Japanese locals, such as Kyoho grapes and melons, alongside a series of some amazing oranges. I highly recommend the fruits a lot here.
However, being that this IS the Conrad Tokyo, they also have an a-la carte menu that you can order from, and is limited to one order from the menu. You can also get champagne for an extra fee, but I’ll save that for my flight back home. I got the lobster omelet and felt so guilty having also downed several plates of breakfast meats, eggs and bread.
This is still one of the very best breakfast buffets in Tokyo, alongside the Regent Taipei and the Conrad Seoul. Everything is fantastic and high quality, and the service was attentive and kind. It’s the first breakfast that I was able to have both a lobster AND Uni scramble egg! Ultimately, the Gold/Diamond status of Hilton is one of the best values when traveling to Asia, particularly for breakfast.
Conclusion | Conrad Tokyo
Tokyo hotels carry a hefty premium across the board, and thus with any redemptions, it’s wise to find one that maximizes your points usage. If you’re a Gold or Diamond Hilton member, this is a fantastic redemption to be staying at. From a points perspective, 95,000 is still a bargain when you consider the great service, fantastic breakfast and location over everything else. It’s a prime choice for those traveling to Tokyo either for their first time or their Nth time.
