Hotel Review: The Palace Hotel, A Luxury Collection
Introduction | The Palace Hotel
The Palace Hotel in San Francisco is one of the most historic and grand buildings in the West Coast, with its history dating back to the late 1800s. As a Marriott luxury property, this is one of the most favorited hotels in the world by many travel enthusiasts. Recently, the hotel completed their latest renovations and we were invited to stay over for a night. We also got a chance to actually visit San Francisco during the nighttime, which was rare.
Location | The Palace Hotel
Location is at a prime spot, with the hotel located near busy Market Street, where you can catch the public transit connections to the city and BART to the airport. Less than 10 minutes away, the SF MOMA and Union Square is available via walking. Hit up a trolley and head to the Ferry building or Fisherman’s Wharf.
The Room | The Palace Hotel
The room was very nice and cozy - typical for San Francisco. With oak doors and antique brass knobs leading into our room, this old-world charm room felt like it belonged here in the modern century. High ceilings, white wall moldings, completed with a gray color scheme, allowed for an open and warm ambiance. Every room has a 48’ TV, bathrobe and slippers, fridge, safe and 2 bottled water. It feels like we were transported back in to an age of fine dining and travels.
The bathroom size was a bit small, but the amenities and products were all the latest. Sleek gray marble, large mirror and lovely waterfall shower head was welcomed during our stay. The California King sized bed was heavenly though, as we easily knocked out over the soft count sheets and pillows.
We had breakfast at the Garden Court, which seems like a place where millionaires and old-money reside. With its $7 million gold glass domed ceiling to the Christmas trees adorned with so many sparkling ornaments, breakfast felt like a million bucks. As a Marriott Platinum Elite member, we were given free breakfast, which was super nice, considering the price per person was around $28 per person.
Conclusion | The Palace Hotel
Overall, our one night stay at the Palace Hotel was sweet and cozy, if albeit a bit too relaxing. While parking isn’t cheap ($72.00 for valet, which is such a pain point), the historical decor and design, along with the posh service and soft product makes the hotel one of the finer luxury hotels in San Francisco. Worth the stay? I definitely think so, if you have the points or a free night certificate from Marriott to use.
