Hotel Review: Autocamp Russian River, Airstream Suite

Introduction

Nestled among the towering redwoods of Sonoma County, AutoCamp Russian River offers a unique blend of outdoor adventure and modern comfort. This innovative glamping destination has quickly become a favorite among travelers seeking to reconnect with nature without sacrificing the luxuries of a high-end hotel. During a recent two-night stay in one of their signature Airstream Suites, I had the opportunity to experience firsthand what makes AutoCamp Russian River stand out in the increasingly popular world of glamping.

Location

AutoCamp Russian River is situated just outside the charming town of Guerneville, providing easy access to the rugged beauty of the Russian River Valley. The property seamlessly integrates with its surroundings, with pathways winding through groves of redwoods and native flora. Upon arrival, guests are greeted by the striking sight of gleaming Airstream trailers arranged in a thoughtful layout that balances privacy with a sense of community.

Airstream Suite

The Airstream Suite, the cornerstone of the AutoCamp experience, is a masterclass in compact luxury. These iconic silver trailers have been meticulously renovated to offer all the comforts of a boutique hotel room. Stepping inside, I was immediately struck by the efficient use of space and the attention to detail in the design. The interior features a queen-sized Tempur-Pedic bed dressed in high-quality linens, ensuring a restful night's sleep after a day of exploration. The living area includes a comfortable seating space perfect for relaxing with a book or planning the next day's adventures.

One of the most impressive aspects of the Airstream Suite is the kitchenette. Equipped with a mini-fridge, microwave, and basic cooking utensils, it allows guests to prepare simple meals or store snacks for late-night cravings. The inclusion of a French press and locally roasted coffee beans was a particularly nice touch, allowing for a perfect cup of morning coffee to be enjoyed on the private deck outside.

One of the most crucial aspects of any accommodation is the bathroom facilities, and AutoCamp Russian River does not disappoint in this regard. While the Airstream Suites feature their own compact bathrooms with toilets and sinks, the spa-inspired shower facilities located in a separate building elevate the experience significantly. These private, spacious shower rooms are stocked with organic bath products and plush towels, offering a refreshing and luxurious start or end to each day.

Amenities

AutoCamp Russian River goes beyond just providing comfortable accommodations. The property offers a range of amenities designed to enhance the outdoor experience. The central Clubhouse serves as a hub for guests, featuring a beautifully designed lounge area with a fireplace, perfect for socializing or working remotely. The on-site general store stocks a curated selection of local wines, craft beers, and artisanal snacks, making it easy to assemble an impromptu picnic. You can also get logs for $9, though I’d recommend just going down the street to the nearby Safeway for duraflame logs.

For those looking to explore the surrounding area, AutoCamp offers complimentary bike rentals, a fantastic way to visit nearby wineries or cruise along the river. Fire pits scattered throughout the property provide the perfect setting for evening s'mores (kits available for purchase) and stargazing. The sense of community is further fostered through organized activities such as yoga classes and guided hikes, though these were not available during my midweek stay.

For those glamping in their luxury tents, you can use the shower stalls at the main building, which has plentiful hot water and shower pressure.

The property successfully walks the line between rustic charm and modern luxury, providing a unique experience that appeals to both outdoor enthusiasts and those who prefer their nature with a side of comfort. While the price point may be higher than traditional camping, the level of amenities and the quality of the accommodations justify the cost for those seeking a special getaway.

The service has been nothing short of fantastic, with the front staff and the housekeeping team being super kind and generous across our two nights. They even gifted us a dog welcome kit, that came with a dog bowl, blanket and treats!

Conclusion

What a fun experience! AutoCamp Russian River offers a fresh take on the camping experience, one that embraces the beauty of the outdoors while providing the comforts of home. Whether you're a seasoned camper looking to try something new or a hotel aficionado dipping your toes into outdoor living, AutoCamp provides a memorable stay that might just change your perspective on what it means to camp.

As I packed up my belongings and took one last look at the majestic redwoods surrounding my Airstream, I couldn't help but start planning my next visit to this unique retreat in the heart of Sonoma County, hopefully with my parents next time! We’re also looking into Autocamp Yosemite or Sequoia in the future!
