3 Free Night Award Certificates (welcome offer)

Marriott Bonvoy has an interesting market of credit cards that span to both Chase and Amex, which may make it a bit complicated in some sense. While there are various personal credit cards, there is only one Marriott business credit card and one that is quite a brilliant card to have.

The Marriott Bonvoy Business Card has a great welcome offer of three nights (up to 50,000 points per night) after spending $6,000 within the first six months of card opening. Once issued, these certificates are valid for 12 months from the issued date, so you should utilize the timing appropriately if you have any upcoming trips or ideas of a travel adventure.

Depending on your travels, hotel destinations like the Ritz Carlton Dove Mountain, Westin Singapore and Ritz Carlton Bacara, Santa Barbara are just some examples that would give you fantastic value from these certificates!

Card Details and Breakdown

Let’s break down the card a bit more:

  • $125 Annual Fee

  • No Foreign Transaction Fees

  • 6x Bonvoy Points at Marriott Hotels

    • According OMAAT, this is around a 4.2% return on hotel spend - this card would be quite lucrative if you are consistently staying at Marriott hotels

  • 4x Bonvoy Points in Select Categories

    • This includes purchases at restaurants, U.S. gas stations, cellphone service and U.S. purchase for shipping

  • 2x Bonvoy Points on All other Purchases

  • Annual Marriott Free Night Award

    • Every account anniversary, you get a free night award that is valid for a property up to 35,000 points. You can also top this award with an additional 15,000 points, making it super valuable at face value. These free night awards are one of the main reasons why I hold the card and a great leverage against sudden travel plans or emergencies.

  • Complimentary Marriott Gold Elite Status

    • Useful for travel abroad, such as 25% bonus points, 2PM late checkout, premium Wi-Fi, room upgrades (non-suites), etc.

  • 15 Elite Nights accredited to your Marriott Status

    • This is actually a valuable perk since you get 15 elite nights towards your status annually. If you have a a personal and business card, you can actually stack these cards for faster elite status accruement. In other words, you can get close to 40 nights with just two cards! Platinum status is 50 nights, so you simply need 10 nights to easily hit the elite status, which I think is a great value.

Marriott Credit Card Advice

Word of advice: this welcome offer isn’t available to those who have had this card or had the Starwood Preferred Guest Business Credit Card from American Express.

Furthermore, the welcome offer is not available to applicants who:

  • have or have had the Marriott Bonvoy Premier Plus Business Credit Card from Chase, the Marriott Rewards Premier Plus Business Credit Card from Chase, the Marriott Bonvoy Business Credit Card from Chase, or the Marriott Rewards Business Credit Card from Chase in the last 30 days

  • have acquired the Marriott Bonvoy Boundless Credit Card from Chase, the Marriott Rewards Premier Plus Credit Card from Chase, the Marriott Bonvoy Bountiful Credit Card from Chase, the Marriott Bonvoy Bold Credit Card from Chase, the Marriott Bonvoy Premier Credit Card from Chase, or the Marriott Rewards Premier Credit Card from Chase in the last 90 days

  • received a new card member bonus offer in the last 24 months on the the Marriott Bonvoy Bountiful Credit Card from Chase, the Marriott Bonvoy Boundless Credit Card from Chase, the Marriott Rewards Premier Plus Credit Card from Chase, the Marriott Bonvoy Bold Credit Card from Chase, the Marriott Bonvoy Premier Plus Credit Card from Chase, or the Marriott Rewards Premier Credit Card from Chase

However, I find that Amex Business Cards are incredibly easy to be approved for. Anecdotally most people I’ve heard from have reported instant approvals on this card, so it really shouldn’t be very tough to be approved for, even if you haven’t gotten many business cards in the past. Just make sure you know that:

  • You can be approved for at most two Amex cards in 90 days

  • You can have at most five American Express credit cards at any point (this doesn’t include cards without a preset spending limit)

Is it Worth It?

I think this card is absolutely worth applying for if you’re in the hunt for Marriott properties in the near future, since you can easily top 15K points on top of the certificates, making the value proposition more valuable. It’s also worth having for its perk if you’re not a Marriott member yet. In addition, the annual free night award certificate is easily worth more than fee at times, so that alone is a great reason to get the card for your small business.

Conclusion

The Marriott Bonvoy Business Card is a great contender and a great Marriott card for a a business to hold onto, as its annual free night certificate, 15 elite nights toward status and its 3x 50,000 Free Night Award Certificates are easily valuable against the annual fee. Furthermore, the card has an great all-round spend at Marriot hotels and select categories.
