Hotel Review: Intercontinental Singapore Robertson Quay | Junior Suite

This beautiful and private 5 star hotel located in Robertson Quay area of Singapore is perhaps the most understated yet elegant hotel in the area. Located in the quieter parts of Singapore and popular amongst Singapore Expats, I would easily recommend this hotel to anyone looking to visit Singapore in the future.

I had the chance to upgrade my stay in Singapore to a Junior Suite, which is the 2nd biggest room size in their portfolio. Given the price and the chance to get more space, I opted in and never looked back. As mentioned in my previous review of their studio king room, the rooms are opulent and well designed. Their inclusions of various unique products and materials makes it incredibly luxurious and relaxing to any travelers.

The suite is generous by default - the floor to ceiling automated blinds and sheers allow you to take in a beautiful sight of Singapore during sunrise and sunset, and I often just stopped working to admire the views during the golden hours. The natural lights flood the room in and I had no problem not turning on the lights during the duration of my stay.

The vibe at this hotel is all about giving you the feel of a luxurious residence, and again, the materials and choice of furniture have made this a beautiful place to unwind after a long day at work. The pace around here is also very relaxed, as it’s next to the river and the vibe here is more of a residential pace. However, there are a lot of restaurants here which made for a great place for travelers to enjoy some Chili Crabs or tapas from the area.

The bed and pillows are excellent, and I had a great night’s sleep with the AC blasted to the max low of 20 degrees celsius. Control panels are accessible on both sides of the bed, and you’re able to manage your window shades, various lights and your access ports for any charging. Due to COVID-19, they have pivoted to using QR code on the phone as an entry point into their menus and selection. I actually loved this as it’s an automated bot that can act as your in-room dining service, your housekeeping or any other things you may need during your stay.

Like the studio king room, there is a Bose Solo Bar here for your pleasure and the same TV that has a wide range of international news channels and entertainment, though to my slight disappointment, there was no Bloomberg TV. I guess you can’t have everything your way at times, haha.

The Nespresso machine served as a main anchor for my wake up and the smell of coffee in the morning is irresistible. In addition, they serve up Monogram tea packets, which I really like! Compared to the TWG brand that most 5 star hotels give, this particular brand is very boutique and the fragrance is incredible. I had to ask for extras as I was downing almost all the packets every other day!

Bathroom is massive here. All the suites come with ah bathtub and has excellent water pressure for you to quickly utilize. Sleek and modern - I wished my bathroom at home was like this. There is of course a rainfall shower with even more space compared to its studio king room counterpart. I loved the setup of the bathroom and found it quite relaxing to freshen up.

Breakfast is downstairs on the 1st floor at Marcello, which serves a full breakfast buffet experience that is a la carte item from their menu. I think this is a fantastic approach as it reduces food wastes while improving quality and the dining experience. Honestly, I love this breakfast place so much, I even venture to say their laksa and roti prata is some of the best I had in Singapore!

There is a fantastic selection of western choices as well, and I had a blast ordering almost everything off the menu during my stay. Food quality is easily 5/5 and their Asian selection made me craving for so many rounds - i had to walk around the area to burn it all off.

As a Intercontinental Platinum Ambassador member, I was given a guaranteed 4:00pm check-out as well as various upgrades here and there.

Additionally, you will also get to enjoy the following privileges as part of your Club InterContinental benefits:

  • Two complimentary garment pressing upon arrival, 25% off subsequent laundry

  • Reserve The Study for up to 1 hour per stay (subject to availability)

  • Priority reservations for you at Publico Deli, Ristorante or Marcello

  • Complimentary local calls

One nice usage was their study room, which members can reserve for an hour without payment. This is insanely private and has some of the best views in the house. I had my afternoon tea there and I was able to get so much done.

The service here is impeccable - afternoon Tea is served from 2pm to 4pm, and canapés and evening drinks is served from 6pm to 8pm. However, one can utilize the club from 11:30am to 9pm anytime. The lounge is beautiful and there is an outdoor al fresco area where one can enjoy. There are a great variety of prosecco, whites and reds and champagne for your drinking pleasure.

While the food is lightly served, it is not meant to fill your dinner slot - rather, it aims to serve as a tasting and refresher as you prepare to head out for dinner. With so many places to eat around the area, I say this is a fair choice from the hotel’s part.

The Intercontinental Singapore Robertson Quay is one of the finest and relaxing 5 star hotel I’ve been to, with its luxury hard product and a fantastic breakfast and club lounge service. The rooms here are beautifully designed and the quality is almost unrivaled in many areas. Location is deceivingly close to a lot of areas, and a fantastic running trail next to the river makes for a great morning walk or sunset run.

Having stayed at both Intercontinental Singapore hotels, I can easily say the Robertson Quay has my nod of approval. This is truly a gem of a hotel in the area and a great place for travelers looking for a luxurious and unique residence to stay in.
