Hotel Review: Hotel Toranomon Hills | Deluxe Corner Suite

Introduction

The Unbound Collection by Hyatt distinctly sets itself apart in the hospitality industry by offering a range of properties that transcend conventional hospitality models, placing a strong emphasis on individual character and uniquely tailored experiences for each guest.

Hotel Toranomon Hills impressively features stunning design work by Space Copenhagen, a highly regarded Danish design studio known for its innovative approach. The timeless and minimalist interiors seamlessly blend Danish and Japanese aesthetics, resulting in beautifully serene spaces where guests can easily unwind, focus on work, and engage in social interactions. Additionally, the distinctive duplex style of The Lounge ensures a cozy, comfortable, and enjoyable experience, making every aspect of a hotel stay truly memorable.

This particular property in Tokyo beautifully exemplifies that core philosophy through its thoughtful and meticulous design, alongside a comprehensive approach to service that caters to diverse needs. It’s one of the best Unbound Collection in the portfolio and has several advantages going for it.

We spent three nights here at the Hotel Toranomon Hills and wondered, is this actually better than the Andaz Tokyo, Grand Hyatt Tokyo and the Hyatt Centric Ginza?

Check-In

We had checked in around 7:30pm as we came from Narita International Airport. To get here, we took the bus to the Andaz Tokyo, where the kind staff then escorted us and guided us to the Hotel Toranomon Hills. Because the hotel is still relatively new, it is easier to take the Airport Limo to the Andaz Tokyo than it is to take the subways, as it can get quite hard to navigate during peak traffic hours. Around 24 hours before check-in, I noted that our suite upgrade went from a typical suite to the Deluxe Corner Suite, which would have been close to $1400 a night! Not bad for a suite upgrade here!

For Globalist members of the World of Hyatt program, the Hotel Toranomon Hills offers several notable benefits:

  • Complimentary breakfast for each guest in the room

  • Room upgrade subject to availability at check-in

  • Late check-out (typically 4 PM, subject to availability)

  • Complimentary premium Wi-Fi

  • Bonus Hyatt points for the stay

  • Potential welcome amenity or welcome drink

Corner Suite, King Bed

We were granted a corner suite on the 11th floor due to my Hyatt suite upgrade. The Corner Suite with a King Bed offers a beautiful design for work and rest. It covers 60 square meters and is made for absolute comfort and productivity.

Upon entering the suite, guests are immediately struck by the expansive floor-to-ceiling windows that create an almost transparent boundary between the interior space and Tokyo's dynamic urban landscape. The panoramic views encompass the intricate architectural tapestry of the Toranomon Hills district, providing a constantly evolving visual backdrop that transforms throughout the day. From the soft morning light illuminating the cityscape to the vibrant evening city lights, these windows offer more than a view—they provide a dynamic environmental experience.

The suite's color palette is deliberately crafted to be both neutral and sophisticated—predominantly featuring cool grays, soft whites, and subtle earth tones that come together to create a profound sense of calm and professional composure. Each material is painstakingly selected not just for its aesthetic appeal but also for its excellent acoustic and thermal properties, thereby ensuring a serene and controlled environment that promotes focus and tranquility.

A centralized smart control system provides a convenient and efficient way for guests to manage multiple environmental parameters through an intuitive interface that is easy to navigate. Lighting within the space can be adjusted to support a variety of different activities—ranging from bright, task-oriented illumination ideal for focused work to soft, warm ambient settings that promote relaxation and unwinding. Furthermore, temperature controls are precision-engineered to a high standard, allowing for individual zone management that ensures every guest can achieve their desired level of personal comfort throughout their stay.

Bathroom

The bathroom feels extremely luxurious.

Marble surfaces and advanced fixtures make for a hallmark environment and definitely elevates the Hotel Toranomon Hills in terms of luxury hard products. The premium Nemohamo amenities are awesome and smell fantastic. The brand Nemohamo sets itself apart from the rest by using the power stored in the whole plant to create its line of highly effective skincare products. By using low-temperature vacuum extraction to make use of whole plants, they keep the enzymes, vitamins, and minerals of high quality plants fresh and highly bioavailable in their full line of skincare products, designed for all skin types.

Going back to the bathroom, layered lighting options include ambient overhead illumination, focused task lighting around the mirror, and subtle accent lighting that can be adjusted to create different moods—from bright and functional to soft and relaxing. Smart lighting controls allow guests to modify settings using touch panels or mobile device integrations. Dyson hairdryer is always a plus for everyone!

There’s even a dedicated closet with shelving! Storage solutions are elegantly integrated, with ample counter space, recessed shelving, and various cubby compartments that maintain the bathroom's clean aesthetic while providing practical storage for personal items. A backlit mirror with integrated defogging technology and optional magnification further enhances the user experience.

A separate powder room houses the toilet—featuring bidet functions, temperature-controlled seat, automatic lid mechanisms, and multiple washing preferences—this ultimate toilet represents the pinnacle of bathroom technology and personal hygiene innovation.

Fitness Center

Oddly enough, the hotel doesn’t have a dedicated fitness room at the moment, though they’ve converted what seemed to be a suite into a fitness room. In fact, it felt a bit unusual during our first visit to the fitness center, haha.

The fitness center is equipped with state-of-the-art Technogym equipment, thoughtfully offering a comprehensive range of high-quality cardiovascular and strength training machines to meet various fitness needs. It seems more and more hotels are increasingly adding stair-masters to their routine lineup, which is a welcome addition for those seeking a challenging workout. Floor-to-ceiling windows flood the space with natural light and showcase beautiful city views, making workouts not only effective but also more engaging and enjoyable. The well-designed space includes individual entertainment systems on each machine to enhance user experience and provides complimentary water and fresh towels for added convenience.

Breakfast at Le Pristine, By Sergio Herman

Le Pristine brings a vibrant and festive tribute to the pure, authentic flavors of Italy, intertwining them with Sergio Herman’s rich and deep-rooted Zeeland heritage. This unique culinary experience is best encapsulated by Sergio’s own description of the cuisine as ‘NEW ITALIAN’. Le Pristine operates as a casual fine dining restaurant and café, fully committed to celebrating the vibrancy and joy of life. It carefully infuses Sergio’s profound love for music, art, design, and fashion into every aspect of the dining experience, creating an atmosphere that is both inviting and inspiring.

As a globalist, this was one of the best perks - the breakfast service provides a comprehensive buffet that caters to diverse international dietary requirements. Guests can expect a carefully curated selection of Japanese and Western cuisine, ensuring nutritional diversity and supporting various dietary preferences. The restaurant's approach reflects an understanding of global culinary expectations and the diverse backgrounds of international professionals.

The morning spread was a masterful fusion of Japanese and international culinary traditions that delighted the senses. Guests could enjoy a wide array of meticulously prepared dishes ranging from traditional Japanese breakfast sets featuring grilled fish, aromatic miso soup, and perfectly steamed rice to more Western-style offerings like exquisite artisan pastries, beautifully arranged eggs Benedict, and a variety of fresh fruits, granolas and dessert.

The breakfast selection demonstrated remarkable attention to detail. Locally sourced ingredients were transformed into elegant culinary creations. Fresh seafood, seasonal vegetables, and premium Japanese ingredients took center stage. The pastry selection, in particular, was extraordinary - delicate French-style croissants sat alongside traditional Japanese sweet breads, offering a delightful cross-cultural culinary experience.

I’ll have to compare my breakfast experiences to the Andaz Tokyo, but this may give a ton of 5-star luxury hotels a run for their money with the vast selections and quality of entrees here.

The Lounge

Located on the 11th floor, the hotel's lounge serves as a sophisticated and inviting networking environment that caters to a diverse range of professionals and business travelers. Spanning an impressive area of 350 square meters, the Lounge is a luxurious duplex space accessible exclusively to guests staying at the hotel. The lounge provides a valuable opportunity for guests to unwind and connect, and it can be utilized both before check-in and after check-out.

A beverage program features a curated selection of fine wines, premium international spirits, and locally sourced sake provides an ideal setting for informal business discussions or post-conference interactions. The lounge's inviting design facilitates not only professional networking but also personal relaxation, making it a versatile space for both work and leisure.

There’s also a dedicated resting room that’s particularly great for unwinding after a long day - it’s a semi-private relaxation room featuring curtain partitions that provide just the right amount of privacy. Here, you can enjoy a comfortable and secluded space furnished with cozy sofas, which are perfect for unwinding and taking a refreshing, restful break.

Self-service lockers are conveniently available in the lounge area for your comfort and ease. After you check out, you can securely store your belongings here and continue to enjoy your time without any concerns. If you arrive before check-in and are in need of a refreshing shower, our shower rooms are readily available to help you revitalize and prepare for your day ahead. We didn’t have much use for this, but I can imagine a ton of business travelers utilizing this before the flight home.

Conclusion

This was a fantastic hotel from beginning to end. Superb service, amazing rooms and great amenities like the fitness center, lounge and the breakfast was just some of the highlights of this hotel. As a category 6 hotel in the Hyatt portfolio, points can spread from 20K to 25K, depending on the seasonality of Tokyo. This is one of the best redemption rates I can think of, given that this hotel can easily cost from $400 to a whopping $1000 a night.

From an operational perspective, the Hotel Toranomon Hills Unbound Collection successfully bridges the notable gap between luxury hospitality and essential professional functionality. Its strategic location within the bustling city, alongside comprehensive amenities tailored to enhance the guest experience, and a nuanced understanding of the specific needs and preferences of business travelers, firmly positions it as a premier accommodation choice in Tokyo's highly competitive hospitality market.
