Hotel Review: Grand Hyatt Kauai Resort & Spa | Ocean View Suite

The Grand Hyatt Kauai Resort and Spa isn’t simply just a hotel. It’s an experience.

From its massive layers of pools and waterfalls to its own saltwater lagoon, copious amounts of beautiful green space, various restaurants, an amazing spa and fitness center, parrots in the morning and singing at night, to the beautiful ocean walks, this is the perhaps the most exciting and envious Hyatt of them all.

Before I begin, I wanted to share some of my favorite pictures from the hotel grounds and just show how beautiful this place is. Words simply don’t do justice to this hotel.

Driving There

Flying into Lihue was a breeze - as a small airport, it took less than 5 minutes from exiting the gate to the outdoors, where we ventured to the Rental Car Shuttle stop.

Driving from the airport to Grand Hyatt Kauai Resort and Spa takes about 25-30 minutes. I loved the tree tunnel as you head into the heart of Poipu, and with the clouds billowing randomly, it’s so scenic. Mind you, it is Kauai, so enjoy the drive. Everything slows down here.

Booking

When it came to booking this resort, we used our 75,000 Hyatt points to book for three nights. In addition, we tacked on a Suite Upgrade to grab a standard suite (which later on our amazing VIP manager Amanda helped upgrade even more) to make the experience more enticing. As a globalist, all fees are waived, and free valet is given. This adds so much value and usability and would recommend folks to use points to help waive fees if you don’t have Globalist status.

We were also given access to the Club, which provides an assortment of breakfast, snacks, dinner and desserts throughout the stay. We mainly used it for the fruits and water.

Check-in

My wife and I checked in around 2pm and was instantly greeted by Amanda Rita, our VIP Manager.

First, massive shout out to her for elevating our stay here at this hotel - she managed to grab us one of the best suites (in my opinion) that had direct access to the grounds and beaches, which helped with my photography. Super thankful for her and her team for making it so much fun!

Back to the check-in. Very quick and very communicative - Stephanie, our front desk staff, also greeted us with a bottle of Champagne and two cold glasses. Loved it! We were in Suite 1038, which was on the 1st floor on the Poipu Wing, where the Spa and Grand Club lounge is located at.

The Resort

This place is HUGE. It’s not a joke when I say its worth just walking around the resort for exercise - from end to end it probably took us 15-20 minutes. There are two wings where the rooms are located. Poipu to the right and Shipwreck to the left. The pools and lagoon is located near Shipwreck, whereas the Spa, fitness center and grand club is in the Poipu wing.

For dining, Tidepools is basically stuck in the middle surrounded by the koi ponds, with The Terrace restaurants also being on the 3rd floor, essentially near the lobby.

About the Poipu Wing - it’s quite interesting how the layout works. There ware wings that are assorted by floor but all either connect with the elevator or through a granular decline from 4th floor to the spa to the 3rd. You can also take the spa exit and end up at the beach. With over 600+ rooms, its no surprise that it took us a bit of time to get accustomed to this massive resort. However, the fresh breeze and large window openings allowed for a relaxed galley and made it very relaxing to walk around.

Suite 1038

Man, this suite is so good. Incredibly beautiful and well decorated, this massive suite contains a dining room, a living room, master bedroom, closet and master bathroom. A proper fridge and microwave is located on the bar section of the dining section. Outdoors, we had literally the whole backyard greens to ourselves - two wide patios with a lounge chair and two chairs and a coffee table.

The suite contained a large living room and 4-seat dining table that made for good use during our adventures with the fruits we encountered during our stay. A TV and a large lounge ottoman was also present for any viewing pleasure.

The bedroom had a massive king bed that faced the outdoors and has a private shade that is motorized. Very convenient during the day when the sun is blazing. In addition, there are sliding wooden doors for the room to ensure more privacy. A Japanese bidet is present in our bathroom as well.

Given that the Grand Hyatt Kauai Resort and Spa is located in the sunny side of Kauai, it was nice to see a mixture of voluminous clouds and sporadic rain - it’s a very beautiful moment and all your senses are engaged. Honestly, the weather in Kauai was not too hot and with clouds coming in and out, the shade felt very comfortable and relaxing with the breeze.

This resort is made for long walks in the dusk and sunset. I’ve attached pictures below that showed our excitement when we woke up to such a beautiful sunrise.

Summary

The Grand Hyatt Kauai Resort and Spa is perhaps my favorite hotel of all the Hawaiian islands, which is high praise considering all the Maui hotels we had stayed at before. For 25,000 per night it is incredible value and the value of Globalist just makes it even sweeter. Vast pools, amazing views, great food and attentive service from the team just makes this place so worth it.
